Body Health - Gardening. Herbal Remedies. Crafts
These days it seems there’s an uptick in the desire for people to homestead and live off the land. And, for quite some time, I’ve been hearing an inner whisper saying, “We are going back to the Garden”! (The capital G was intentional) What does that mean to you? To me, it means that we are returning to a more simple way of living, being more self sufficient and being more connected to God, the land and community. It also makes me think of the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve walked and talked with God. I can only imagine how perfect it all was back then. This isn’t to say that I think life is going back to being perfect but rather I believe our Heavenly Father is inviting us to have a stronger, more intimate, relationship with Him. I love gardening and making herbal remedies but I can’t seem to talk about them without talking about the One who gave us it all! He truly is the Master Gardener and the Lord of the Harvest!
“Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.”
Genesis 1:11
“He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth”
Psalm 104:14
Meet Trisha
Gardening is such a joy to me and I choose to be as natural about it as possible. I earned my Natural-Organic Certification from Texas Organic Research Center a few years ago but as much as I learned and as thankful I am for the education, many times it’s still a trial and error process as well as gleaning knowledge from others. For the past few years, I’ve used half seeds (heirloom or organic and non-GMO) and half starter plants from Michigan Heirlooms. Though I use raised beds, I still incorporate many of the concepts that Back to Eden gardening method encourages. I received my Master Herbalist Certification from Trinity School of Natural Health and find much excitement in making herbal remedies from my garden harvest. Two of my favorite basic herbs to grow are garlic and oregano but I also grow rosemary, basil, lavender, chamomile, chicory and a few others. What is even more exciting to me is finding little God surprises that grow wildly and have so many benefits (as long as they’re not sprayed) such as dandelion, lambs quarter, clover and more. When making herbal remedies, if I do not have what I need, I try to buy from local farmers, orchards, bee keepers, herb or specialty shops. Local is the key if possible!
